Job Description
Salem State University is seeking Adjunct Instructors with interest and experience teaching topics in mental health counseling such as research methods in psychology, marriage/couples and family counseling, developmental psychopathology, psychological testing, gender and human sexuality, practicum and internship seminar, multicultural counseling, differential diagnosis, group counseling, counseling theories, psychopharmacology, and assessment & testing. Teaching assignments will include at least one course, depending upon the expertise of the candidate and needs of the programs. Three (3) years of full-time mental health counseling experience post licensure date is required to teach practicum or internship seminar. Candidates would need appropriate qualifications and experiences to teach in the M.S. Counseling program which emphasizes multicultural and social justice perspectives in mental health.
Duties will also include teaching based on established MS counseling program syllabus, ability to integrate multicultural and social justice perspectives into curriculum, being available to meet with students before and/or after class to support their learning, and timely completion of assessment and feedback to students on their performance (e.g., academic, interpersonal, and professional). Consultation with Graduate Program Coordinator through periodic meetings and working collaboratively with M.S. Counseling faculty members.
This posting will be valid for three years to build a sufficient adjunct pool.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD/PsyD/EdD (or candidate) in counseling, clinical psychology or related field
- Experience teaching a multicultural population
- Demonstrated commitment to collaboration and collegiality
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, supervision, and advising
- Demonstrated ability to integrate multicultural and social justice perspectives into curriculum
- Strength and potential for excellence and leadership in community engagement and university services
